National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (NIUS) PHYSICS programme 

Announcement for 16th Batch (2019 – 2020)
 

NIUS (Physics) programme is designed to provide extended nurture and guidance to undergraduate students in Physics. In this programme students attend nurture camps organized by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) TIFR, Mumbai, and work on proto-research student projects during their vacations over a period of about two years (June 2019 – Dec. 2020). Applications are invited for NIUS (PHYSICS) programme for 16th batch (2019 – 2020) from FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE students who are pursuing any of the following degree i) 3 year B.Sc./B.Sc.(H) with Physics as one of the subject, ii) 4 year B.S./B. Tech./B.E. in Physics/Applied Physics/ Engineering Physics,  iii) 5 year  M.S./M. Sc. (Integrated) with Physics as one of the subject and iv) 4 or 5 year B.Tech./B.E. any branch of Engineering/Technology (with a strong interest in Physics). Applicants should have at least 60% marks or equivalent grades in Class X and Class XII examinations.

The first camp will be held at HBCSE, Mumbai, tentatively during June 7 – 21, 2019. This camp will be an exposure and enrichment camp where leading scientists will offer short courses on core topics in physics. There will also be a laboratory course based on “Experimental Problem Solving” approach. In addition, there will be project related enrichment lectures. The students selected at the end of the first camp will carry out project work under the supervision of the mentor during the subsequent camps.

Checklist for Application (No E-mail applications):

1.  Application form or its equivalent on plain paper, duly filled.

2.  A 250 word write up to explain and justify your interest in research and development.

3.  Self-attested photocopies of your Std. X and Std. XII mark sheets.

4. Two duly filled confidential assessment forms from teachers whom you had an interaction during last one year. Send them in individually sealed and signed (by the teachers) envelopes along with your application.

5.  Bonafide certificate of affiliation as a first year student from your college / institute.

6.  One self addressed (with PIN) envelope (with Rs. 10/- Indian Post stamps) of size about 10 cm×25 cm.

Last date for receipt of completed applications at HBCSE, Mumbai is February 15, 2019. Send your completed application consisting of all the above mentioned documents to the following address so as to reach HBCSE, Mumbai on or before February 15, 2019.

Please write clearly “NIUS (PHYSICS) 16.1” on the envelope.
