National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (NIUS) PHYSICS programme
Announcement for 18th Batch (2021 – 2022)
NIUS (Physics) programme is designed to provide extended nurture and guidance to undergraduate students in Physics. In this programme students attend nurture camps organized by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) TIFR, Mumbai, and work on proto-research student projects during their vacations over a period of about two years (June 2021 – December 2022). Applications are invited for NIUS (PHYSICS) programme for 18th batch (2021 – 2022) from FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE students who are pursuing any of the following degree i) 3 year B.Sc./B.Sc.(H) with Physics as one of the subject, ii) 4 year B.S./B. Tech./B.E. in Physics/Applied Physics/ Engineering Physics, iii) 5 year M.S./M. Sc. (Integrated) with Physics as one of the subject and iv) 4 or 5 year B.Tech./B.E. any branch of Engineering/Technology (with a strong interest in Physics). Applicants should have at least 60% marks or equivalent grades in Class X and Class XII examinations.
The first camp will be held in June – July 2021 or December 2021. This camp will be held online or at HBCSE, Mumbai as per the HBCSE office orders and COVID-19 guidelines. This camp will be an exposure and enrichment camp where leading scientists will offer short courses on core topics in physics. There will also be a laboratory course based on the “Experimental Problem Solving” approach. In addition, there will be project related to enrichment lectures. The students selected at the end of the first camp will carry out project work under the supervision of the mentor during the subsequent camps.

Last date for receipt of completed applications (ONLINE or HARDCOPY) and Recommendation forms at HBCSE, Mumbai is February 25, 2021. The list of selected students will be made available on the NIUS website by April 15, 2021, and an email invitation will be sent to each selected applicant by April 25, 2021.
