National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (NIUS) PHYSICS programme
Announcement for 14th Batch (2017 – 2018)
NIUS (physics) programme is designed to provide extended nurture and guidance to undergraduate students in Physics. In this programme students attend nurture camps organized by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, Mumbai, and work on proto-research projects during their vacations over a period of two years (June 2017 – June 2019). Applications are invited for NIUS (PHYSICS) programme for 14th batch (2017 – 2018) from FIRST YEAR UNDERGRADUATE students who are pursuing any of the following degree i) 3 year BSc/BSc(H) with Physics as one of the subject, ii) 4 year BS/BTech/BE in Physics/Applied Physics/ Engineering Physics, iii) 5 year MS/MSc (Integrated) with Physics as one of the subject and iv) 4 or 5 year BTech/BE any branch of Engineering/Technology (with a strong interest in Physics) with at least 55% marks or equivalent in their Class X and Class XII examination.
The first camp will be held at HBCSE, Mumbai, tentatively during June 13 - 28, 2017. This camp will be an exposure and enrichment camp where leading scientists will offer short courses of a pedagogical nature on core topics in physics. There will also be a short laboratory course based on “Experimental Problem Solving” approach. In addition, there will be project related enrichment lectures/courses. The students selected at the end of the first camp will carry out project work with mentors during the subsequent camps.

Checklist for Application (No E-mail applications):
Application form or its equivalent on plain paper, duly filled.
A 250 word write up to explain your interest in and expectations from the NIUS (Physics) programme.
Self-attested photocopies of your Std. X and Std. XII mark sheets.
Two duly filled confidential assessment forms from teachers whom you had an interaction during last two years. Send them in individually sealed and signed (by the teachers) envelopes along with your application.
Bonafide certificate of affiliation as a first year student from your college / institute.
Two self addressed envelopes (without postage stamps) of size about 10 cm × 25 cm.
Last date for receipt of completed applications is February 25, 2017. Send your completed application consisting of all the above-mentioned documents to the following address so as to reach HBCSE, Mumbai on or before February 25, 2017.
Please write clearly “NIUS (PHYSICS) 14.1” on the envelope.
